Hello, Subscribers!
Medicaid was signed into law in 1965 to provide basic health care coverage to the poor and disabled, a noble goal. However, like most well-intentioned government aid programs, it has morphed into a much broader — and unaffordable — form of entitlement subsidization.
In California, for example, 40% of residents are now on Medi-Cal which is that state's version of Medicaid. (Note: that’s 40% of the republic’s most heavily populated state, by far!) Like most states, California has learned how to game the system to receive ever larger amounts of federal matching funds. The Golden State expects to receive $120 billion in federal subsidies this year. Astoundingly, as the Wall Street Journal points out, this is more than Florida state's entire budget.
